Format of the resume is one of the important points that should be considered while writing it. Writing a good resume requires the content to be put up to the point. This means that the length of the resume is one of the important factors that should be thought over. Layout of the resume depends upon the profession. Resume of an artist varies from that of an IT professional and it applies to various professionals. What discriminates the resumes of various professionals? Experience, skill set, education are the basics that discriminate the writing style of various resumes. Proper formatting for your whole resume should be followed to make it a winning resume.

If you are forwarding your resume for the position that matches your skill set, education and experience and still not getting favorable reply from the recruiters, then either you are not successful in writing the proper cover letter or your resume is not effective to highlight the strengths, skills and qualifications you acquire.

When we say about the resume writing tips, it explains a lot about resume formats. There are three types which are followed.

Chronological format: It describes about your job objective and skill set. The beauty of this format is it does justice to your work experience and educational qualification. These are mentioned in the reverse form, i.e. from the latest present to the past. Functional format: This format is suited for professionals with limited work experience, and experience from varied fields. This type of resume is suited if the candidate wants to highlight skill and functionalities. In this case you can omit the detailed information regarding your work history, i.e. the period of employment, position you held etc. Some times the employer may think that the candidate wants to hide some details and mostly the employers do not entertain this resume format. Combinational format: Considering the limitations of the functional resume, combinational format is the good option to blend the best of chronological format and functional format while writing a resume. So you can emphasize on your work experience as well as skill sets.

Refer the tips mentioned and as said earlier try to find out if by mistake you are not doing justice to your skill set and experience. Follow the resume format that projects you as a right candidate.
